Possessed Possessions : Watch of a dead boy - Part I
What would you do if you see a watch that cost 20 thousand INR in your new house? What if the previous owner offered you to keep the watch? DO NOT keep it throw it out of your house, at least, that is what Arun, the protagonist of this story would ask you to do.
About the Protagonist
Arun is a not-so-educated teen who practices carpentry as his profession. He along with his friends were nomads whose place of stay, depended on where he got his contracts. He was residing in Chennai when this event occurred and one of his relatives offered him to stay in his house which was uninhabited for a long time.
Arun was a sucker for alcohol and spent most of his earnings on it. He was an Agnostic who did not believe in anything supernatural at least until this event occurred. He was an extrovert and this quality was evidently the cause of the trauma that was caused by this event.
Story
Arun was excited to visit the ever-welcoming city of Chennai. He was flabbergasted by how buzzing the city was as this was his first visit. Finding a house to live especially, for a very short duration was extremely hard in the city and despite multiple attempts, he failed to get a house for rent.
Luckily, he got reminded of one of his relatives who resided there and went to his house asking for help. His relative (whose name is Manish) greeted him with a cheerful face. After having lunch together, Arun asked Manish if he could help him with the house hunt hesitantly. Manish offered him to stay in one of his houses which had apparently remained uninhibited for a reasonable amount of time. The only two conditions he had was that Arun should clean that house before staying in it and he should not go near the well which was present in the house’s backyard.
Arun readily agreed and moved into that house on the same day. When all the excitement settled, he was able to feel something negative in that house but he did not divert much attention to it. From the next day onwards, Arun got into a regular routine of working, eating, boozing and sleeping. One fine weekend, while cleaning the house, he found a brand-new G-Shock wristwatch in one of the house’s closets. He informed Manish about this watch and to his surprise, he offered him to keep it. He was filled with joy upon hearing this and wore that watch with glee.
The remainder of the day went similar to every other weekend and it was time for a dreadful night to begin. Arun being all alone in the house, went to sleep early as he had nothing else to do. He woke up in the middle of the night as he heard the sound of someone walking inside the house. He grew paranoid and slowly followed the sound with a torch in his hand as the power seemed to be cut.
He at first thought that the uninvited guest was a thief but, the sound led him to the kitchen. When he flashed his torch light on the floor, he saw wet footprints on the floor. The footprints looked like that of a small boy and despite being wet, they were also black in color. They ended right near a sealed door in the kitchen and this door was the only way to the backyard of that house.
Confused by what he was experiencing, Arun went back to sleep. The next day onwards, whenever he returned from work, Arun started seeing a small boy whom he hadn’t seen before, staring at his house door every day. Being an extrovert, he tried talking to the boy multiple times but, he ran away every time Arun approached. Coincidentally, Arun started getting nightmares every day from the day he started seeing this boy. These nightmares were so terrifying that he says, “I feared sleeping”. Also, he started seeing those wet footprints every morning as soon as he woke up. His nightmares got worse day by day as the last day of his contract neared. He was literally waiting for his contract to end as he desperately wanted to leave that house and city. He somehow felt that he was going through this ordeal only because of residing in that house.
His contract ended and he informed Manish that he would be leaving that house the very next day. That evening, he saw that boy again as usual but, this time he did not run away. He stood there staring into Arun’s eyes. When Arun asked where do you live, he pointed to Arun’s house. Arun was confused by his gesture and stood there blank-headed. The boy now stared at Arun’s watch and slowly walked towards him. Arun says that this boy magically disappeared right in front of his eyes and there were wet footprints on the path he walked before disappeared, which seemed to be exactly the same as the ones he had been seeing inside the house every day.
Although terribly frightened, he looked forward to the next day as he felt his ordeal would end. But little did he know he was set to endure the most terrifying night of his life….Part II
