Disconcerting Demons : Andras, The Great Marquis of Hell
According to the Goetia, Andras is one of the Marquises of hell who has thirty legions of demons in his command. He is held responsible for sowing discord (disagreement) and he is the 63rd demon summoned by Solomon.
Andras is an extremely dangerous demon due to
his major lack of patience and has the potential to kill the magician summoning
it. The summoner should stay within a magic circle when Andras is around to
prevent him from killing them. It is said that Andras will always try to lure
the conjurer out of this circle but if they give in to his temptations, they
will surely be killed by him.
Andras can kill any person the conjurer wants
but, he is very stern. Hence, summoners should be careful while speaking to him
as offending him would result in dire consequences. He is only conjured for
serious proceedings and due to his perilous personality, he is often summoned
as a last resort.
He was frequently summoned by military leaders
to start wars that lasted for years together and modified the political
structure. He is very skilled in the use of
using human beings' very own anger towards them, having the ability to infect people with uncontrollable dooming rage. He's capable of controlling
a person's anger or inflicting rage upon any individual the conjurer wishes and
tempts humans to kill their servants or masters. He teaches humans how to kill
their enemies. He could also give the summoner the answers to all secrets of
the Earth, in exchange for a terrible price.
His skills with the sword and ruthlessness in
combat were acknowledged by the legions of hell. At some point in time, Andras
even sparred with the Dark Knight himself however, each time he was defeated
but this sparked a type of good-natured rivalry between him and Sparda. In
spite of his skills in combat and risky personality, Andras is exceptionally
honorable as he presented his loyalty to Vergil after he was defeated by the
son of Sparda. He also explicitly appreciates other robust warriors that prove
their worth and ability.
Appearance
Andras is
described as an entity with a human body, angelic wings, and an owl's head.
Seems to be a weird combination, doesn't it? But as people say, appearances are
deceptive. He rides a black wolf blessed with bestial strength and wields a
bright sword that is extremely sharp. There are a few instances where he
appeared as an almost naked elf with an Owl's head and angelic wings mounted on
a giant wolf. It is said that only powerful magicians can summon him in this
second form.
Abilities
- Rage Projection: Andras has the ability to enrage people by magnifying their anger until they commit a violent act.
- Possession: He has the ability to control human beings by entering into their body. However, he can only possess people who are overcome by anger.
- Teleportation: He has the ability to teleport from one place to another. He glows during this process
- Clairvoyance: He has the ability to locate people and see things that are happening far away.
- Immortality: Like most other demons, Andras can live forever.
Origins
Andras used to be an angel dwelling in heaven
despite the fact that a good deal of his activities in heaven is unknown. He
joined Lucifer's revolt and fought against God only to be thrown out just like
the rest of his fellow fallen accomplices. Like most fallen angels, his fall
and awakening had been unsightly and took part in the making of Hell.
Slowly Andras
commenced the build of his recognition and power within the newly-shaped
hierarchy of Ars Goetia. He was appointed as a Great Marquis of Hell with
thirty legions of demons below his command whose one and only directive is to
hunt and kill people. Andras served for hundreds of years as a paladin after
which a blackguard.
Andras possessed
a woman in East Africa in 1890. A clergyman named Ota Benga carried out an
exorcism, but he did not want the demon to return to Hell. So, he imprisoned
Andras in his very own body.
He remained
within the Benga's body for over a century, until he was visited by B.P.R.D.
agent Ashley Strode. Sybacco, one of Andras's servants, contacted Strode
wanting her to release his master to stabilize the hierarchy of hell. The demon
revealed that he held the soul of a young boy hostage, and threatened to drag
the kid's soul to Hell if his needs were not met.
Benga and Strode made a plan to banish him as killing him is impossible. They traveled to a spiritual plane where they battled Andras managing to drive him out of Benga and made him possess a goat. They later killed the goat forcing him to return to hell.
