Horrific Hauntings : The Mcinteer Villa
The Mcinteer Villa dates to 1889 and is said to be the most haunted place in Kansas. The splendid home was constructed by an Irish named John Mcinteer who was born in 1827 and moved to the United States where he started a profitable commercial enterprise making harnesses and saddles.
The house was bought by different owners and
it even functioned as a dormitory for a few years. In its dark history, 9
deaths have been recorded within the home, where one was by suicide. There is
speculation that these deaths are the reason for the eerie paranormal events
occurring in the house even today.
History
The mansion became built for John Mcinteer, a
well-known businessman of Atchison. He was born in Ireland in 1827 and came to
the United States all by himself while he was a young boy. He settled in
Philadelphia and later, moved west to Indiana, where he gained knowledge about
harness-making. He desperately wanted to move to the west, so he moved to
Kansas in the 1860s. He started a small keep in Atchison, making saddles and harnesses,
and he got a strong reputation as a craftsman quite soon. With an increasing
number of settlers shifting to the west, there was a consistent parade of wagon
trains transferring through the metropolis and lots of them needed John’s
services. His business became such a hit that he enlarged it in multiple
instances, making his products on a large scale viable. He invested in real
estate in Atchison and close to St. Joseph, Missouri, and soon gained a lot of
property.
The mansion that has his name was built in
1889-1890 and it turned into one of the city’s most special residences. It was
constructed for a sum of about $14,000, which used to be a huge sum during that
era. The Villa has five bedrooms and 4 bathrooms with elaborate woodwork
throughout the house. John’s first wife, Alice, died in the house in 1892, and
3 years later, he married Anna Conlon, a widow with 3 sons. After John met his
demise in 1902, Anna continued to stay within the residence until her death in 1916.
During this course, the Mansion housed a lot of her loved ones, including many
kids. After Anna died, her brother, a well-known Judge Charles J. Conlon, and
his family lived in the Mansion until 1925.
The huge residence then acted as a dormitory for
the next 25 years. Later in 1952, it was purchased by Isobel Altus and become a
household once more. Isobel, a retired professional violinist and an
“eccentric”, lived there till 1969. She is reported to be always dressed in
black. Due to the fact that the home was located across from the Franklin
school, the children noticed her when they walked to the classroom and
vice-versa. Rumours unfolded about the “witch” who lived inside the old mansion
and the children had remained fearful of her.
Unluckily, Isobel genuinely didn’t have the
cash for her grand plans of restoring the house to its original splendour and
it was purchased by George Gerardy just before her demise. The house was then
restored and is now considered one of the strangest houses in the Midwest. mal
Paranormal Occurrences
There are numerous areas in this residence
which are said to be paranormally active, however, one of the most haunted
locations is the house's basement. This stretched-out underground space has
quite a number of rooms and no one is sure about the purpose it served. A few
have speculated that unlawful abortions and dark activities befell in this area
in the past, yet it does continue to be a mystery. One room especially seems to
be the favourite vicinity for a shadow figure to lurk, with many claiming to
sight a tall dark guy-shaped shadow who additionally isn’t shy to growl at
visitors.
Apparitions of children and the sound of
toddlers crying are also reported. The ground floor is another area in which
eerie activities are present. Here, visitors have heard atypical noises which
include the piano playing on its own, or the creaking of a rocking chair, which
is also the thing on which Goldie, a former resident died.
The second floor is also extremely active.
Here, many have reportedly seen apparitions and shadow people, they’ve captured
EVPs and seen things shift on their own. One room that's of particular interest
even houses a doll, that's itself supposedly haunted. This doll is genuinely a
marionette that dates back to the 1800s and features actual human hair on its
head. The attic space is another exciting vicinity. This location has been
described as uncomfortable. Many have also sighted a shadowy figure up there
and a lot of women have noted physical interactions including being touched
abusively or getting scratched.
Current State
