Horrific Hauntings : Coorg Diaries Part III
Read the second part here
After everything that happened on her last trip, my grandma refused to visit her relatives in Coorg for a long period but, she had no other choice but to go to that place again for her cousin’s wedding. She was not able to stop thinking of what happened last time and the face of that entity was mirroring in her head throughout her journey. A lot of things had changed since she was a kid, she was married now and had kids as well.
She reached her cousin's place
late in the evening along with her husband and two children. The
first thing she did after reaching was to look for the hut that haunted her
but, to her surprise, it had been demolished and the land was being used for
coffee plantations. She was delighted and thanked the Gods for what she saw but
little did she know that only the hut was gone but not the spirit. Her fears
had magically disappeared and she spent the entire evening gossiping with her
cousins and sisters.
It was time to sleep and as
usual, she, her cousins, and her sisters decided to sleep in the house we
stayed in along with their children. My grandma along with her elder cousin
slept in a bedroom that had a window that was facing the land which once had that
hut built upon but she was least bothered by it and fell asleep. She woke up in
the middle of the night to use the toilet which was built outside the house.
Everything felt calm at the beginning but, when she came out of the toilet, she
saw the figure which she never wanted to see again standing near the house
door. She refused to believe what she was seeing and thought she was
hallucinating. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the house door again but now
there was no one standing. She smiled to herself thinking how silly she was and
went into the house to sleep again.
She opened the window of the room she was sleeping in as it was feeling hot inside, kept her head near it, and shut her eyes trying to sleep. With the cool breeze came the sound of a wailing woman through the open window. The sound kept getting louder and louder and the sound slowly changed from wailing to growling as she keenly listened to it. The sound kept coming closer and closer as she got drenched in her sweat. She caught her breath as the sound stopped for a few minutes and hoped it would not come back. She was stunned as she heard the growls near her head which, gave her an asthma attack. As she opened her eyes to search for her inhaler, she saw the same woman she saw as a kid.
The woman was glaring
at my grandma through her bloody eyes and whispered “Been so long kid, you seem
to have new kids with you now! Can I take them with me?” in an evil tone with a
maniacal laugh. My grandma says she was not able to shout or move her body as
the entity touched her cousin’s child. The child jumped out of his bed shouting
and pointed to the window in a trance state. Her elder cousin woke up to this
sound to see my grandma struggling to take her breath and helped her with the
inhaler. She says she was so terrified that she along with her kids left
the house in the middle of the night and went to the venue where the reception
was scheduled the next day and slept there. After hearing her stories, I
understood that the entity that troubled her was the one that haunted us the
previous night.
We left that house and gave its
keys to my cousin’s family as we left for the wedding. The wedding went as
planned but what happened on the previous night was still stuck inside my head.
The clock ticked 4 as we decided to leave and I just wanted to leave the town
as soon as possible. My dad found out that his driving license was missing and
after giving it a thought, remembered leaving it in the room they slept. I was
put in a situation to enter that house once again as my family waited in the
car while I was asked to bring the license. Although worried, I had a strong
feeling that everything would go fine as the sun had not set (effect of
watching too many horror movies 😉) but I was proven wrong. I opened the house door to see an
eerily silent house and ran into the first bedroom.
My Dad’s license was
present right on the bed making my work easier. I kept it inside my pocket and
left the room as soon as possible. When I was about to leave the place after locking
the house door, I saw a woman run into the coffee plantation in a panicked
state. I ran in that direction instinctively trying to find what was wrong and
why she was running only to find no one there. Clouded with confusion, I turned
around to see a woman clothed in a shirt and skirt, with a cloth turban that
plantation workers used on her head, standing very close to me. I was taken back
for a while and then slowly asked why she was running in a scared tone. The
woman stood mum with no expression. I understood that something was wrong and
started running back towards the road. While sprinting back, I heard someone
follow me and I was adamant not to turn and see. As the distance between me and
the car became lesser and lesser, I heard a voice shouting don’t go in an
aggressive tone.
I managed to get into the car safe and sound and asked my dad to take us out of that place as soon as possible. The car started moving and finding it hard to breathe as I was panting heavily, I rolled down the window to get some air. While trying hard to catch my breath, I accidentally glanced at the mirror to find the spirit glaring at our car from the terrace of that house. We were lucky to leave the place safe and I haven’t visited my cousin since then.
